On Tuesday 26th November 2024, 6.00 - 7.30pm I Chaired a MEGAbite online session with Karen Atkinson, CEO of MindfulnessUK for the Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME) through my role of Co-Chair of ASME's Mindfulness in Medical Education Special Interest Group. To watch the recording follow this link: https://www.asme.org.uk/events/mindfulness-megabite-with-karen-atkinson/
Karen specialises in training others to build resilience through mindfulness, compassion, gratitude and joy. In this MEGAbyte session she will be exploring this interrelationship through the Iceberg Model of Inquiry from her book, “Compassionate Mindful Inquiry in Therapeutic Practice”. In addition to guiding some mindfulness practices, Karen will be exploring the evidence that MindfulnessUK and colleagues in the Higher Education sector have built for shorter practices and courses for those who work in health and social care, and their patients. She will discuss the development of the conceptual foundations that ensure accessibility and engagement for participants to promote their compassion, wellbeing and resilience.
Session objectives:
1) Understand the relationship between mindfulness and compassion by exploring the Iceberg Model of Inquiry.
2) Appreciate how this approach can develop and enhance resilience in a sustainable way.
3) Gain more knowledge of the research findings from teaching shorter practices and how these findings are contributing to a shift in the field of health and social care.
